Our story begins in 1881, when Dr. Modest Furest i Roca visited Caldes de Malavella and discovered the properties of the waters emerging from the spring called 'Puig de les Ànimes.' He decided to establish here what became his life’s project: building a spa. Later named and known as Vichy Catalan, the bottled water gained such fame that four Catalan entrepreneurs (Buenaventura Blay Milà, José Ferrer Torralbas, José Serradell Amich, and José Vías Camps) became interested in the project and, together with Dr. Furest, founded S.A. Vichy Catalan in 1900. It wasn’t until 1891 that the foundations of the 1881 Hotel Balneario Vichy Catalan were finally laid, with its official opening on June 12, 1898.
